Mira Vista K-8
Mira Vista has 2 gardens, each a square about 50’ per side. The ‘lower garden’ was established about 15 years ago and features 9 beds and 8 dwarf fruit trees – mostly apple trees. Elementary teachers use the garden for occasional lessons. The 2 teachers who were the primary gardeners both retired 2 years ago and the garden is now primarily maintained by parent volunteers. A “middle school’ garden was established 12 months ago with funds from the American Heart Association. In 2012-2013 this second garden space was used to host an Urban Agriculture elective class in the spring for 6th – 8th graders. We use the garden for the classes. The garden has 12 raised beds. We plan to eventually build at least three more beds in this space.
