Dover Elementary School
This school garden is supported by the WC DIGS Mentorship Program.
The Dover Garden is a parent run garden that is in its second year. The garden was built as part of the rebuilding plan for Dover Elementary. There are seven raised beds and two ground level beds. This year the parents have five beds in use growing herbs and vegetables, and are planning to increase the use of the garden by inviting teachers to participate having their student’s plant in the other beds. Through a grant from the USDA Nutrition Network, we have started a family nutrition class during the school day that allows both parents and students to cook together, learn how to eat better, and have an opportunity to garden. We are in the process of developing an all volunteer model for the Dover Garden that will become a learning laboratory for the students and a community garden for the families.
